Russia and Belarus agree to deepen strategic co-operation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy

“On the margins” of the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State held in St. Petersburg on 29 January, a Memorandum between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on deepening strategic cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy and related high technologies was signed.

The document was signed by Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, on the Russian side, and Sergei Shlychkov, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, on the Belarusian side.

The memorandum provides for the implementation of joint projects in nuclear medicine, digitalisation, additive technologies, elimination of accumulated environmental damage and radioactive waste management. Russian-Belarusian cooperation in these areas is focused on using the competences of the Russian nuclear power industry and Belarusian enterprises to ensure the technological sovereignty of our countries.

There is an agreement in principle to build joint work, including within the framework of the relevant programmes and projects of the Union State.
